1. Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply

Taking home an ARIA for Single Of The Year and becoming the duo's first No. 1 single on the US Billboard Charts, Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones song 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' was an anthem for 1997. It was the most successful Australian song of the year.

Taken from their second album "Freak Show" in 1997, 'Freak' became Silverchair's second No. 1 song on Australian charts. They didn't revisit the No. 1 spot until 10 years later with their 2007 hit 'Straight Lines'.

'Torn' was the debut single of Berkeley Vale-born Natalie Imbruglia and hit No. 1 in five different countries. While the song made the rounds all across the world, it only reached No. 2 here in Aus! The song was actually a cover of a less-popular version recorded by Danish band Ednaswap in 1995.
