Asbestos Concern For Greenacre School After Crash Ten News

There are concerns that the crash at a Greenacre school yesterday morning may have exposed dozens of children to the risk of asbestos poisoning.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, the demountable building that was the site of the crash was a weatherboard building from the 1960s.

NSW Education confirmed "asbestos-containing materials have been identified inside the building" at the Banksia Road Public School, however a representative from the Education Department has declined to say whether there were any previous complaints about the safety of the building.

“The removal of any asbestos that may have been disturbed in the damaged building will be managed in compliance with SafeWork NSW requirements,” he said.

“The Department’s first priority is to the students and staff of Banksia Road Public School, and we are currently focused on supporting them.”
