A gang has trashed a barber shop during a massive brawl in Melbourne in which a man was struck in the neck with a tomahawk.
Up to 15 men entered the shop in Footscray at 5.10pm on Friday and began arguing with people inside, police said on Tuesday.
Several fights broke out between the men and patrons, and one man was struck in the back of the neck with a tomahawk.
He was taken to hospital with a non-life threatening laceration and police say there was "a lot of blood but it wasn't as bad as it could have been".
Police are yet to work out the motive for the brawl but believe the men, aged between 17 and 20, are known to each other.
The gang picked up whatever they could find and hurled it around the shop.
"Stuff from inside the barber shop were utilised as weapons, such as clippers, stools, a broom and numerous other items," Detective Senior Constable Peter Street told reporters on Tuesday.
"They caused significant damage to the shop."
There were 20 to 30 people inside the shop when the brawl started.
During the scuffle, $600 was also stolen from the store's register and police gave released CCTV images of the men, some of which had their faces partially covered.
No staff were involved or injured in the brawl but they were "shaken up", police say.
